No. 2: One Last Bone to Pick
One Final Bone to Pick with The Knick by Leila A. McNeill
History of Medicine, Midwife Speaking by Anna Reser
This issue we wrap up our discussion of period medical dramas and their problematic representation of women. As it has recently finished its first season, we’ll take on the second half of The Knick, which is, impossibly, even more rage-inducing. Then, we lighten the mood by discussing Call the Midwife, which manages to tell women’s stories from both the perspective of the healthcare provider and the patients.
